Safe Spaces

Safe Spaces is a free and independent support service for anyone who has experienced abuse in relation to the Church of England, the Church in Wales or the Catholic Church of England and Wales. This could be abuse by someone who holds any role at the church or is linked to participating in a church-led activity or group.
For more information and contact details go to the Safe Spaces website

Past Cases Review (PCR2)

All parishes are required to participate in a Past Cases Review, commissioned by the Church of England. PCR2, as it is known nationally, is part of the Church's ongoing scrutiny of its handling of past and current safeguarding cases. An Independent Reviewer will be looking at files relating to church officers in this parish, both lay and ordained, past and present.

Individuals who wish to make representations to the PCR2 process, or who need to come forward with information or make any disclosures, are encouraged to make direct contact with the Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser. However, recognising that this may not feel safe for those with a lived experience of abuse from within the Church, a dedicated telephone helpline - 0800 80 20 20 - operated independently from the Church, by the NSPCC, has been set up.

Our Policies and Procedures

We follow the Church of England policy for the Diocese of Chester, which can be found here...
CHURCH OF ENGLAND SAFEGUARDING POLICY
We follow the principles of the 5 R’s.

We Recruit safely
All paid staff who work with children are DBS checked every 3 years.
If you volunteer to work regularly with children or vulnerable adults, you will be asked to undertake a DBS check. This is free of charge (you can pay a small fee to have your DBS check made transferable to other organisations). The process is quick, (usually completed within 1 week) and simple (the application form is emailed to you, you complete it online, and produces 3 forms of identification)

You will be trained to;
Recognise, Respond and Record any concerns you have.
Training is the responsibility of the diocese, and you will be asked to complete the relevant on line training package relating to the job role you are performing. A training matrix can be found in the parish safeguarding handbook, but if you are not sure what programes you need to complete, please speak to the parish safeguarding lead or Vicar.
Refresh training will be available every three years.
When you complete your on line training you will be awarded a certificate , which should be forwarded to the Church Admin so that we can accurately record who has completed the required training.

Review
Our policies are reviewed annually. Safeguarding is discussed at leadership meetings and is on the agenda of every PCC (Church Council) meeting.
